Rep. Jackson Reintroduces Legislation to Defend Gun Owners from Anti-Second Amendment Policies

WASHINGTON — Earlier this week, Representative Ronny Jackson (TX-13) reintroduced the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act. This legislation would ban any state or unit of local government from imposing any insurance requirement or any tax, user fee, or other similar charges as a condition of continued ownership of a firearm, pistol, or revolver.

Jackson said: “Never before in American history has our Constitutional right to bear arms been under more attack than right now. For years, Pelosi’s radical-left policies demonized every gun-owner in America. She inspired a generation of Democrats at every level of government to pass the worst anti-gun legislation this country has ever seen. Now, crime is skyrocketing in deep-blue cities across the country, and people are living in absolute fear. Local police departments have been abandoned by their radical-left legislators while they ignore the savage criminal gangs who run their streets. Even lawful citizens who do arm themselves are being crushed by a slog of unconstitutional gun-control laws written by radical Democrats who have never shot a gun in their lives. Unless action is taken now there may be no return to a civilized society, which is why I am reintroducing the No User Fees for Gun Owners Act in the 118th Congress that will protect Second Amendment rights across the nation. One step at a time, we will ensure that your right to bear arms is guaranteed by Washington once and for all.”

Jackson is a member of the Second Amendment Caucus. The bill text can be found here.

Background:

Last year, the city of San Jose passed a law mandating gun owners to have liability insurance and pay an annual fee for simply owning guns. Specifically, within six months after enactment, gun owners in San Jose have to pay an annual $25 fee per household and purchase gun insurance that covers losses and damages resulting from “any negligent or accidental use of the firearm.” Rep Jackson’s bill would block these kinds of policies from being implemented in blue cities nationwide.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) has endorsed this bill.

Representatives Don Bacon (NE-02), Dan Crenshaw (TX-02), Jake Ellzey (TX-06), Rick Crawford (AR-01), Paul Gosar (AZ-09), Dan Newhouse (WA-04), John Moolenaar (MI-02), Greg Steube (FL-17), Doug Lamborn (CO-05), Randy Freenstra (IO-04), Randy Weber (TX-14), Alex Mooney (WV-02), Brian Babin (TX-36), August Pfluger (TX-11), Ken Buck (CO-04), Doug LaMalfa (CA-01), Joe Wilson (SC-02), Richard Hudson (NC-09), John Rose (TN-06), and Lance Gooden (TX-05) have cosponsored Jackson’s legislation.
