WASHINGTON, DC — Yesterday, Congressman Ronny Jackson (TX-13) and House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul introduced the Countering Chinese and Russian Support for the Taliban Act. This bill would require a report be delivered to Congress which details the Taliban's nefarious relationship with Russia and the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After the Biden administration's disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021, the Taliban's relationship with bad actors around the world continues to expand at an alarming rate, creating a massive threat to the national security of the United States.
Jackson said: "The costs of President Biden’s botched Afghanistan withdrawal – one of the largest national-security blunders in the history of our country – weakened America's hand against our foremost adversaries, China and Russia. While American taxpayers watched in disarray at the withdrawal, China and Russia immediately saw a power vacuum to expand their own geopolitical influence in the region. America has a responsibility to mitigate and restrain the geopolitical influence of our adversaries who pose national security threats to American interests both at home and around the world. With Iran actively stoking the flames of war in the Middle East, it is important that we stay aware of the malign actions being taken by rogue leaders like Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. I am proud to introduce this legislation with the support of Chairman Michael McCaul to protect our national security interests and keep Americans and our service members safe from our enemies who are emboldened under the current administration."
McCaul said: “The world has not been this dangerous since World War II, and the administration can no longer underestimate our adversaries’ intentions to undercut US interests at every turn. I’m proud to introduce this legislation that would require the administration to examine the malign relationship between the Taliban, the CCP, and Russia, and protect our national security.”
