WASHINGTON — Representative Ronny Jackson (TX-13) honored the life and sacrifice of Parmer County, Texas, native Private First Class John T. Wilkerson, presenting Wilkerson’s family with a flag and shadow box at the Panhandle War Memorial, recognizing his service during World War II.

Wilkerson served with the U.S. Army’s Battery G, 59th Coast Artillery Regiment, in the Philippine Islands. Captured by Japanese forces on April 9, 1942, he endured more than two years as a prisoner of war before making the ultimate sacrifice on October 24, 1944.

“Private First Class John T. Wilkerson represents the courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty of the Greatest Generation,” said Rep. Jackson. “We owe it to John, his family, and every American who has worn the uniform to ensure their service and sacrifice are never forgotten. May we always remember the Americans who answered the call, fought for freedom, endured captivity, and gave everything in defense of our great nation.”
